CDD-Ghana Mourns Victims of Military Helicopter Crash, Calls for Thorough Investigation
The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the eight individuals who perished in the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The deceased include the Minister of Defence, Dr. Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Murtala Mohammed.
In a statement, CDD-Ghana extended sympathy to President John Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), noting that the tragedy had claimed “dedicated and distinguished members” of the nation’s leadership.
The centre urged the public and the media to exercise compassion and respect the dignity of the deceased and the privacy of their families. It also backed calls for a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the crash.
The ministers were travelling to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region to launch a government initiative against illegal mining when the incident occurred. CDD-Ghana said their deaths should strengthen national resolve to “intensify the fight against this destructive practice [illegal mining].”
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, and with the entire nation during this time of mourning,” the statement concluded.
