One Ghana Movement Condemns Vetting Committee’s Conduct, Calls for Accountability
The One Ghana Movement has strongly condemned the actions of certain members of the Vetting Committee of Ghana’s 9th Parliament, describing them as undignified and a violation of the country’s democratic values.
In a statement issued following the events of Thursday, January 30, 2025, the Movement criticized the acts of vandalism and destruction of public property allegedly led by members of the Minority, stating that such conduct undermines public trust in state institutions and represents a waste of national resources.
“Ministerial vetting, as enshrined in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, is a crucial process designed to ensure that nominees for public office possess the necessary competence, integrity, and experience to serve in the public interest,” the statement noted. “However, the reckless actions witnessed during the recent vetting process failed to reflect these ideals.”
The One Ghana Movement has called on the Speaker of Parliament, Parliamentary Leadership, and the Chairman of the Vetting Committee to take decisive action in maintaining order and discipline during future proceedings.
Additionally, the group urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney-General to investigate, arrest, and prosecute individuals responsible for the destruction of state property. “Upholding the rule of law without fear or favour will serve as a deterrent to future attacks on state institutions and facilities by public officers elected to serve, not to destroy,” the statement emphasized.
As a thought leadership and social action organization committed to responsible citizenship, the One Ghana Movement also called on parliamentarians to uphold the highest standards of leadership, accountability, and respect for the people they serve.
