OSP Removes Ken Ofori-Atta From Wanted List Following Legal Team’s Assurances
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from its wanted persons list following assurances from his legal team regarding his scheduled return to Ghana in May 2025.
This decision follows a period of uncertainty surrounding Ofori-Atta’s whereabouts, which led to the OSP declaring him wanted as part of an ongoing investigation into corruption-related offences. The former minister was being investigated for alleged financial misconduct during his tenure, but his undisclosed location complicated efforts to advance the inquiry.
On February 18, 2025, Ofori-Atta’s legal representatives communicated to the OSP that their client intends to return to Ghana in May and is fully committed to cooperating with the investigation. In response, the OSP acknowledged the stated return date as reasonable and agreed to reschedule his interview accordingly.
This development marks a significant shift, as the OSP had initially declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice on February 12, 2025, after he failed to appear for a scheduled interview in Accra regarding the corruption probe.
Following his legal team’s communication, the OSP has formally removed Ofori-Atta from its wanted list.
However, the Special Prosecutor’s office has emphasized that should he fail to return as scheduled or refuse to attend the rescheduled interview, he will once again be listed as a fugitive from justice.
The OSP reaffirmed its commitment to taking all necessary legal actions to ensure Ofori-Atta’s participation in the investigation and to uphold accountability in the fight against corruption.
