Otto Addo sends message to next Black Stars coach

Otto Addo has left an important message for the next Black Stars coach after announcing his resignation after the Black Stars’ exit from the 2022 World Cup.

The former Ghana international said whoever is appointed as the new coach must be confident in his ability to carry out his ideas regardless of the pressure he may face.

Addo resigned following the Black Stars’ 2-0 loss to Uruguay in their final group game at the Al Janoub Stadium.

After defeating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw or win against Uruguay to advance to the last 16 stage but that did not come to fruition as both sides ended up exiting the tournament.

“Be himself, fulfil his ideas no matter who tries to come between but he should listen to his coaching staff, take advice and if there is anything I can do to help, I am always there,” he said.

“I will give advice and help my motherland. [He] should not listen to negativity too much, be fearless.”

The Black Stars will now focus on the remaining qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Addo, he decided to quit because his role as talent coach at Dortmund is crucial to the club and it took a lot of effort for the GFA to get him lead the Black Stars.

“The decision is not only in my hands, Before I even started working with the GFA, everybody knew I had a contract with Dortmund and to even come here was very difficult and the GFA put a lot of effort to get me released,” he said in a press briefing in Qatar.

“What you have to know is the position I have as a talent coach is very crucial to Dortmund. We produce a lot of big talent. It is a crucial and important position for the club.

“Normally they wont have to let me go but because I want to help the country and the GFA went there had good talks, they released me for six months,” he added.
