The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has intercepted and subsequently seized 436 pistols (side arms), 26 packs of 50 pieces of ammunition and 1 (40 ml) piece of pepper spray at the Tema Port.

A press release issued by Customs indicate that, an examination of the container flagged as ‘Red Channel’ upon arrival at the Tema Port, led to the discovery of the aforementioned items.

Per the press release, the pistols and ammunition had been imported into the country without the permit of the Minister of Interior and had also not been declared to Customs on arrival.

The Customs Division further note that, the restricted items found in the container has been seized and are currently in the custody of the Customs Division.

In addition, the clearing agent linked to the confiscated items is currently assisting the Tema Harbour Police Command with investigations.

GRA in the press release, condemned assertions by some persons that sought to suggest that, the seized pistols and ammunition were being kept by the Authority for onward distribution to some important personalities in the country.
