SOGEGH Drives GSE to Fresh Gains as Composite Index Climbs to 8,587 Points

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) posted modest gains on Tuesday, supported by renewed investor interest in select financial stocks, particularly Societe Generale Ghana (SOGEGH), which continued its strong upward trajectory.

Data from the Ghana Stock Exchange shows that the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) advanced by 28.71 points to close at 8,587.31, representing a 0.34% rise, taking its year-to-date (YTD) return to 75.66%. The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) also strengthened, gaining 0.57% to settle at 4,442.44, pushing its YTD performance to 86.60%.

The session’s momentum was largely driven by SOGEGH, which increased by GH¢0.30 to close at GH¢4.50, extending what has been one of the strongest rallies on the market this year. CAL Bank and MTN Ghana also recorded mild advances of GH¢0.01 each to close at GH¢0.38 and GH¢4.20, respectively.

Trading activity was dominated by MTN Ghana, which led market turnover with 133,860 shares traded, valued at GH¢561,902.00. Total market volume surged by 235.82% to 1.41 million shares, while total value traded declined by 41.26% to GH¢1.32 million, reflecting lower high-value transactions compared to the previous session.

Overall, the market reflected stable investor sentiment, with gains across key counters helping to push the indices higher despite a slowdown in trade value.
