Paa Kwesi Ndoum Slams Police Arrest of Elmina Sharks GM Amid Referee Attack Controversy

Dr. Paa Kwesi Ndoum, the bankroller of Elmina Sharks Football Club, has reacted strongly to the arrest of the club’s General Manager, Kelvin Aboagye, in connection with the recent attack on referee Eso Doh Morrison during a Division One league match against Swedru All Blacks. Aboagye was apprehended on February 17 as a suspect in the incident that occurred after Elmina’s 1-0 loss to All Blacks.

The match turned chaotic when players and officials from Elmina Sharks were filmed attacking referee Morrison, allegedly in response to what they perceived as unfair officiating. The footage quickly circulated on social media, drawing widespread condemnation and prompting an investigation.

In a passionate statement shared on his Facebook page, Dr. Ndoum condemned Aboagye’s arrest, labeling the situation as “ridiculous” and “clueless.” He criticized the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the police, questioning their handling of the matter. “If this is how the GFA and the Police want to handle this matter, we can play the game also,” Ndoum stated. “As for the GFA, they shouldn’t try at all… Is this how we bring back the love for football? Clueless!”

Ndoum’s comments reflect the growing frustration among club officials regarding the governance of football in Ghana, particularly in the wake of incidents involving violence and poor officiating. He emphasized that the GFA needs to take substantial steps to restore integrity and respect within the sport.

As the investigation continues, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the challenges facing Ghanaian football, particularly the issue of hooliganism and the need for effective measures to ensure the safety of players and officials alike.
