Public Accounts Committee Seeks Government Justification For GHS 95 Million Judgment Debt To Be Paid To West Blue
The Minority in Parliament is calling for clarity on the circumstances leading to a GH₵95 million judgment debt awarded against the state in favor of West Blue, a former technical service provider for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the ports.
This demand follows the government’s termination of West Blue’s contract.
Julie Essiam, the GRA Commissioner-General, confirmed the judgment amount during a recent hearing of the Public Accounts Committee.
However, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, a member of the committee, has urged the government to justify the payment and disclose the legal defense strategy employed prior to the court’s decision.
Mr. Mohammed’s remarks reflect growing concerns about the judgment debt, which he characterizes as emblematic of “create, loot, and share” practices.
The MP’s assertion suggests systemic corruption and deliberate financial impropriety, calling into question the integrity of the processes leading to the substantial financial liability.
The call for the Government’s justification of the judgment debt by the Public Accounts Committee underscores the need for heightened transparency and accountability in public financial management, particularly in cases involving significant public funds.
