PBC Workers Protest Against Management Over Twelve Months of Unpaid Salaries
Employees of Ghana’s Produce Buying Company (PBC) have staged a protest at Abeka Junction in Accra over a year’s worth of unpaid salaries.
The demonstrators, clad in red and brandishing placards, marched to the company’s headquarters in Dzorwulu, expressing deep dissatisfaction with management and calling for improved working conditions.
The protest is the latest in a series of actions by PBC staff, following a similar demonstration in the Ashanti region on May 29, 2024.
Workers have also demanded a thorough investigation into the company’s financial management, urging the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to scrutinize the status of the company’s sample residue account.
This unrest comes as PBC faces significant legal and financial challenges. The company’s efforts to liquidate certain assets have been blocked by a court order obtained by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) and five other banks.
The injunction prevents the sale or transfer of PBC properties, including its headquarters at Number 106 Olusegun Obasanjo Way, Dzorwulu Junction in Accra.
