Bawumia Favoured to Lead NPP in 2028, Poll Finds
A recent survey by Global InfoAnalytics has found that 57% of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters prefer Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the party into the 2028 presidential election, reinforcing his standing as the dominant figure within the ruling party.
Dr Bawumia, who is the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, emerges as the clear frontrunner in a prospective 2028 leadership contest, securing 48% of the overall vote. His closest challenger, businessman and MP Kennedy Agyapong, trails with 25%, while Education Minister Dr Osei Adutwum garners 13%. The remaining candidates collectively account for 14% of support.
Among core NPP supporters, Dr Bawumia’s lead is even more pronounced, with 57% backing him compared to 22% for Mr Agyapong and 11% for Dr Adutwum. The figures suggest that his tenure as Vice President and his status as the party’s 2024 flagbearer have strengthened his appeal among the party base.
While the 2024 election remains the immediate focus, the findings indicate a level of continuity in support for Dr Bawumia beyond this year’s polls, positioning him as the candidate to beat should he seek to retain party leadership in the next electoral cycle.
