Tullow Restarts Drilling in Jubilee Field with Two-Year Campaign to Boost Output

Tullow Ghana and its joint venture partners have announced the commencement of a new two-year drilling campaign in the Jubilee Field, marking a significant step toward enhancing Ghana’s upstream oil production and operational resilience.

The campaign, which begins this May, is expected to drive incremental production and operational efficiency at the flagship offshore asset, reaffirming Tullow’s long-term commitment to Ghana’s petroleum sector.

The latest programme follows the successful conclusion of Tullow’s earlier four-year drilling campaign in December 2024, which saw the delivery of 18 wells—six months ahead of schedule and under budget. The previous phase was lauded for its safety standards, cost discipline, and execution efficiency.

In a statement, Managing Director of Tullow Ghana, Jean-Médard Madama, underscored the significance of the renewed drilling efforts. “This is an exciting moment for us. The restart of drilling reflects another milestone in our journey in Ghana and shows our confidence in the country’s resource base. Even as the field matures, we are confident in its capacity to deliver value—for our shareholders, partners, and the people of Ghana,” he remarked.

The new drilling campaign will be implemented in phases, with additional work slated for November 2025 and continuing into 2026. It is expected to further enhance output from the Jubilee Field, a key revenue source for the state and other industry stakeholders, despite its advancing maturity.

Ahead of the restart, Tullow completed a 16-day maintenance programme aimed at upgrading operations and de-risking future activities. The maintenance works form part of broader efforts to ensure asset integrity and optimise production capacity.
