Industrial Producer Price Inflation Rises to 43.7% in January 2025
Ghana’s Industrial Producer Price Inflation (I-PPI) for January 2025 surged to 43.7%, marking a 3.5 percentage point increase from the 40.2% recorded in December 2024, according to the Ghana Statistical Service.
The rise in I-PPI was driven by notable inflation in the mining and quarrying sub-sector, which recorded the highest inflation rate at 47.5%, up from 42.8% in the previous month.
This was followed by the manufacturing sub-sector at 19.9% and the electricity and gas sub-sector, which experienced an increase to 9.5%. In contrast, the water supply, sewerage, and waste management sub-sector had the lowest inflation at 4.8%.
Within the mining and quarrying category, mining of metal ores saw inflation rise to 61.2%, while mining support services recorded a staggering 77.6%, the highest in the sector. In the manufacturing sub-sector, basic metals production experienced the highest inflation at 49.5%, followed by motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers at 35.8%.
On a month-on-month basis, the overall change in inflation from December 2024 to January 2025 was 4.5%, with the mining and quarrying sub-sector experiencing the highest increase at 6.6%.
Meanwhile, the water supply, sewerage, and waste management sub-sector remained unchanged from the previous month.
The Ghana Statistical Service emphasised that the January 2025 I-PPI figures are provisional and may be revised with additional data. The report provides valuable insights into price trends affecting industries and production costs in Ghana.
