2026 FIFA WCQ: Otto Addo Urges Black Stars to Maintain Focus Ahead of Crucial Clash with Madagascar

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is emphasizing the need for complete concentration as his team prepares for a pivotal FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar on Monday. Ghana is looking to build on their recent momentum after a commanding 5-0 victory over Chad, which propelled them to the top of Group I with 12 points.

With a two-point lead over Madagascar, a win in Al Hoceima would extend Ghana’s advantage to five points, significantly boosting their chances of qualification. Speaking ahead of the match, Addo stressed the importance of an all-hands-on-deck approach. “We need everyone to be on their toes. We don’t need 98 percent, we don’t need 99 percent; we need 100 percent,” he stated. “This game is like a small final. If we win, we’re really on track for qualification, but it will be very tough.”

Despite minor injury concerns, Addo confirmed that the squad is largely fit and ready to go. He acknowledged the excitement surrounding the recent win but reminded his players of the long road ahead. “Everybody was happy about our last win, but we have to take it step by step,” he added. “It’s very important that we stay focused until we’ve made the job.”

Addo expressed respect for Madagascar, noting their strong form in recent matches. “They have done really, really well, especially in their last game, so we know it’s going to be a tough challenge,” he said. He also reflected on the significance of the victory against Chad, highlighting how it boosted the players’ confidence. “It was crucial to use our chances, especially in the first half, which made things easier in the second half.”

Looking ahead to the clash, Addo emphasized the need for a solid defensive performance, stating, “We have to come together as one to beat them.” He acknowledged that while Ghana has scored eleven goals in three matches, conceding goals remains a concern. “We need to concentrate. Statistics are good, but they don’t guarantee a win,” he cautioned.

The coach also pointed out the psychological aspects of playing away from home. “It’s not always easy, and sometimes it can be a trap if we think it won’t be a hot atmosphere. We have to give 100 percent in every duel,” he said.

In closing, Addo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, thanking the entire nation for their encouragement. “We want to give everything for tomorrow’s game and look forward to our next home match. Together, we can achieve our goals.”
