Plastic Prices Rise by 7% as GPMA Responds to New Excise Tax
Consumers across the country are set to pay more for plastic products beginning July 1, 2025, following a 7% price increase announced by the Ghana Plastic Manufacturers’ Association (GPMA).
In a statement signed by GPMA President, Ebbo Botwe, the Association explained that the upward adjustment in prices is a direct response to the recent imposition of a 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic goods.
“We wish to inform all our cherished clients that, with effect from 1st July 2025, all our prices will be increased by 7%,” the statement read. “This has become necessary due to the implementation of the 5% Excise Tax on all locally manufactured plastic products.”
While describing the move as regrettable, the GPMA stressed that it is a necessary measure to cushion producers from the financial pressures associated with the new tax policy.
The Association has called on retailers, businesses, and end-users to take note of the adjustment and plan their operations and purchases accordingly.
The price hike comes against a backdrop of mounting concerns over the rising cost of doing business in Ghana, especially within the manufacturing sector, where firms continue to grapple with high energy tariffs, volatile raw material prices, and increasing regulatory compliance costs.
