Premier League: Diogo Jota and Jurgen Klopp win January awards

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and boss Jurgen Klopp won Premier League awards after an impressive January period for the Reds.

While there were only three Premier League games in January for Liverpool, the Reds won all of them with little fuss.

Jurgen Klopp oversaw a stellar run from his side in what were difficult fixtures and has been named Premier League Manager of the Month for January.

Despite his squad being ravaged by injuries and absentees last month, Klopp helped the Reds to three eye-catching victories, including a 4-2 victory over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day and a 4-0 win away at Bournemouth.

Liverpool then closed out the month with a 4-1 mauling of Chelsea at Anfield, results that maintained their spot at the top of the Premier League table.

It’s the tenth time that Klopp has been named Premier League Manager of the Month, although he hasn’t received the accolade since May 2021.

Only Alex Ferguson (27), Arsene Wenger (15) and Pep Guardiola (11) have won the award more often, with Klopp moving level with current West Ham United boss David Moyes.

Diogo Jota was also named the Premier League Player of the Month for January after a rich vein of form in front of goal.

The attacker scored three and provided two assists in his three appearances, helping the Reds cope without the influential Mohamed Salah.

Jota’s notable displays mean he claims the award for the first time and becomes only the fourth different Portuguese player to be named Premier League Player of the Month – the others being Cristiano Ronaldo (6), Bruno Fernandes (4) and Deco (1).

The 27-year-old now has 14 goals and three assists in all competitions this season and has scored five in his last six league outings.

Only three other Liverpool players have won Premier League awards during the 2023/24 season, with Alisson claiming Save of the Month for August, Salah winning Player of the Month for October and Alexis Mac Allister earning Goal of the Month for December.
