Premier League: Guardiola Considers Changes as City Struggles Continue
Ahead of Manchester City’s important match against Aston Villa, manager Pep Guardiola called for his players to step up their game to help Erling Haaland regain his form. City is currently in a difficult slump, having lost eight of their last eleven matches, a situation Guardiola has rarely faced in his career.
Haaland, who was instrumental in City’s four consecutive Premier League title victories, has scored only once in his last five games due to a lack of service from his teammates.
Guardiola made it clear he intends to keep playing Haaland rather than switching back to a ‘false nine’ formation. “I prefer to play with Erling,” he stated, emphasizing the need to adapt the team’s style to support the striker.
He explained that Haaland’s struggles are linked to the team’s overall performance, saying, “We don’t produce the amount of chances we used to.” For Haaland to thrive, the team must create more opportunities and work together.
While Guardiola typically avoids making January signings, he acknowledged that this season’s challenges might require a different approach. “We’ll see,” he said about entering the transfer market, noting that this year’s circumstances are unusual.
With a crucial game ahead, Guardiola’s message is clear: the team must unite to help Haaland and turn their season around.
