Premier League: Man United Claims Crucial Win Over Chelsea; Liverpool Maintains Perfect Start

Manchester United secured a vital 2-1 win against Chelsea in a chaotic encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The victory provided much-needed relief for manager Ruben Amorim, while Liverpool continued their flawless run in the Premier League.

Under the rain-soaked skies of Manchester, the match began with a shocking turn of events as Chelsea’s goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was sent off just five minutes into the game. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca scrambled to adjust his lineup, but the early red card turned the match into a relentless assault by United against a makeshift Chelsea defense.

United captain Bruno Fernandes capitalized on the situation, scoring the opener in the 14th minute during his 200th Premier League appearance. The home side’s momentum continued when Casemiro doubled the lead shortly before halftime. However, the Brazilian’s joy was short-lived as he received a second yellow card for a foul on Andrey Santos, leaving both teams with ten men.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Chelsea managed to pull one back when Trevoh Chalobah found the net with a powerful header ten minutes from time. However, United held on for a crucial victory, marking only their second win of the season and lifting them into the top half of the table.

“Every win, especially in this moment, is important against a great opponent,” said Amorim after the match. “We started aggressively, and the red card helped us dominate, but we still complicated our game at times.”

In the early kick-off, Liverpool maintained their perfect record with a 2-1 victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby. The champions took control early, with Ryan Gravenberch scoring in the 10th minute and Hugo Ekitike adding a second in the 29th minute. However, Everton made a strong push in the second half, with Idrissa Gueye pulling a goal back in the 58th minute.

Despite the pressure, Liverpool held firm to secure their sixth consecutive win in all competitions, further solidifying their quest for a record 21st English title. Manager Arne Slot praised his side’s mentality, saying, “We showed how well we can play when fresh in the first 45 minutes, but we didn’t run out of mentality.”

Meanwhile, West Ham’s struggles continued as they fell to Crystal Palace 2-1, leaving manager Graham Potter’s future uncertain. Tottenham climbed to second place in the standings after a dramatic 2-2 draw against Brighton, while newly promoted Leeds celebrated a 3-1 victory over Wolves.
