President Mahama Directs Ministers to Fast-Track Rollout of Ghana’s E-Visa System
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to collaborate on the swift implementation of an electronic visa (e-visa) system in Ghana.
The directive, announced during the commissioning of the newly established Air Navigation Services (ANS) facility and Multi-Agency Command Centre for the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems on Monday, August 4, is aimed at streamlining travel into the country.
According to the President, the API and PNR systems will enable authorities to manage passenger and travel document data more effectively, forming the foundation for the deployment of the long-awaited e-visa regime.
“I’m directing the Hon. Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to collaborate to ensure that this platform is expanded to enable us to implement this long-awaited e-service for the country,” President Mahama said.
He further tasked the ministries to extend the system to cover Ghana’s land and sea border posts and to integrate it with existing e-gate infrastructure.
In addition, the President instructed that the capabilities of the system be broadened to support the advancement of cargo information systems to enhance customs operations.
“These policy directives will ensure the country enjoys the full benefits of what we’re witnessing today. The e-visa system will ease visa application processes, reduce paperwork, bureaucracy, support tourism, and make Ghana an even more attractive travel destination for business,” he stated.
President Mahama emphasized that the future of global travel is increasingly digital, and Ghana must align with this trend to remain competitive and accessible on the international stage.
