President Mahama Publicly Declares Assets
President John Dramani Mahama has publicly declared his assets to the Auditor-General, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
The declaration, made public on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Jubilee House, details the president’s financial holdings, properties, and other assets in accordance with Ghana’s Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act.
In a statement accompanying the disclosure, Mahama underscored the importance of transparency in rebuilding public trust and curbing corruption.
“In times past, I would privately present these forms to the Auditor-General in fulfillment of my statutory obligation. I have taken the step of presenting these forms publicly as a way of injecting some openness and transparency into the process of asset declaration,” he stated.
President Mahama further noted that while punishing corruption is necessary, preventing it at its root remains the most effective approach.
“I honestly believe that if properly created and enforced, asset declaration can become a sustainable tool for tackling corruption,” he added.
The president also issued a stern directive to government officials, warning that failure to declare assets could result in dismissal.
“I urge all government appointees to follow my lead in declaring their assets or risk being sacked from office.”
President Mahama’s public disclosure marks a significant step in institutionalizing transparency measures, as his administration seeks to strengthen anti-corruption frameworks and restore public confidence in governance.
