President Mahama Tasks Sammy Gyamfi with Establishment of Ghana Gold Board in New PMMC Role

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, as the Acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).

The appointment, which took effect on January 16, 2025, entrusts Mr. Gyamfi with leading the establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a flagship initiative from the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, announced the appointment, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to economic recovery and sustainable development.

GoldBod, a strategic undertaking of the Mahama administration, aims to oversee the sustainable management and marketing of Ghana’s gold resources.

Under the direction of the Minister for Finance, its objectives include:

  • Formalizing the small-scale gold mining sector.
  • Providing mining support services.
  • Ensuring efficient and sustainable utilization of gold resources to benefit Ghanaians.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to revitalizing the economy through the mining sector.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. A lawyer and Economic Policy Analyst, he holds the following qualifications:

  • BSc in Environmental Science and Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
  • Barrister at Law Certificate from the Ghana School of Law.
  • MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Ghana.
  • Executive Certificates in Emerging Leaders and Strategic Leadership from Harvard Kennedy School.

Mr. Gyamfi’s professional background includes a tenure with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a notable mining firm in Ghana. His current role as the National Communications Officer of the NDC has solidified his reputation as a dynamic leader with a strong understanding of economic and policy issues.

His leadership is anticipated to drive the establishment and operational success of GoldBod, a critical component of the administration’s economic agenda.
