President Mahama to Host Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Landmark State Visit

The President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, will from Wednesday, July 2, host India’s Prime Minister, H.E. Narendra Modi, for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and India.

The visit, which concludes on Thursday, July 3, 2025, marks a historic milestone as it represents the first official visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in recent years. According to a statement issued by the Office of the President and signed by Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit underscores the deepening strategic partnership between the two countries.

During his stay, Prime Minister Modi is expected to engage in a series of high-level engagements, including bilateral talks with President Mahama at the Jubilee House. Discussions between the two leaders will span a wide range of sectors such as trade and investment, agriculture, education, energy, technology, and healthcare.

Bilateral Agreements and Strategic Cooperation

A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of multiple bilateral agreements aimed at enhancing economic cooperation and development-focused partnerships between Accra and New Delhi. The agreements are expected to serve as a framework for scaling up joint initiatives and investment flows.

Both leaders are also scheduled to address a joint press conference following the signing ceremony to provide further clarity on the new cooperation roadmap and priority sectors.

President Mahama will later host a State Dinner in honour of Prime Minister Modi and his delegation. The event will be attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the business community.

India-Ghana Relations

India remains a longstanding development partner to Ghana, contributing significantly to infrastructure, ICT, industrialisation, and capacity building initiatives over the past decades. The Presidency notes that Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to further entrench these relations while opening new avenues for knowledge transfer, technology exchange, and economic diplomacy.

The visit comes at a time both countries are seeking to expand their global partnerships amid shifting geopolitical and economic trends, with India reaffirming its growing influence across Africa through trade, development cooperation, and strategic diplomacy.
