President Reaffirms Ban on Acquisition of Official Vehicles by Outgoing Appointees
The Office of the President has reiterated its policy prohibiting outgoing Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Regional Ministers, and other political appointees from acquiring official government vehicles as the administration transitions out of office.
In a statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at the Office of the President, the directive reaffirms the continuation of the no-sale policy introduced during President Akufo-Addo’s first term in 2020 which seeks to promote accountability and the responsible use of state resources.
The statement clarified that the traditional practice of allowing appointees to purchase one official saloon vehicle through valuation by the State Transport Company Ltd. will not apply.
Instead, all government vehicles in the possession of appointees, including Ministers, Special Assistants, and Chairpersons of Statutory Boards, must be returned to the Chief Directors of their respective Ministries by Friday, January 3, 2025.
This directive, under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), underscores the administration’s commitment to transparency and effective management of public resources.
The Office of the President has urged full compliance from all appointees.
