Prof Gyampo Writes: We’ll Shut Down Public Sector If Gov’t Fails to Act on Galamsey by End of September

Just see below, water from Birim River as of yesterday 14th September, 2024. Yet they
still have marshaled the guts to call Organized Labor to a meeting to talk about what???

We won’t honor any invitation. The demands are simple. Government clearly has no political will to save or prevent all of us from dying. So we would fight to save ourselves.

1. Declare a state of emergency

2. Place a moratorium on all mining, whether legal or illegal and let the integrity of our colored water be restored.

3. Then we can all have a national conversation about the sensible means of mining that won’t kill us.

There’s no need for any meeting. The message of Organized Labor is clear. Government has up to the end of this month to act, or else we will shut down the entire public sector. It is that simple.

The type of mining the government has allowed in Ghana, which destroys our very source of livelihood, is a war against the state and its citizenry. Unfortunately, the state has refused to fight to defend itself and its citizens. So we will fight to survive and no one will put hurdles in our way by calling for meetings.
