Professor Ransford Gyampo Appointed Acting CEO of Ghana Shippers Authority

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Professor Ransford Gyampo as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority, marking a strategic leadership transition in the country’s shipping and logistics sector.

Prof. Gyampo succeeds Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in December 2024. A distinguished academic and governance expert, Prof. Gyampo is expected to leverage his expertise in public administration, governance, and policy research to strengthen the Authority’s regulatory and operational frameworks.

A Scholar in Governance and Public Policy

Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Gyampo is a Professor of Political Science and Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies at the University of Ghana. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana, with advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA.

With two decades of teaching and research experience, his expertise spans governance, democratic development in Africa, youth empowerment, electoral studies, natural resource management, and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.

Prof. Gyampo has also served as a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida’s Department of Government and International Relations and a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol.

Extensive Policy and Research Experience

Before his academic tenure, Prof. Gyampo spent 14 years at the Governance Unit of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), rising from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow. During this period, he spearheaded high-impact socio-economic and governance research, shaping national policy discussions through evidence-based recommendations.

His appointment comes at a crucial time for Ghana’s shipping and logistics industry, with expectations that he will bring a governance-focused approach to regulatory oversight while advancing trade facilitation within the sector.
