Prosper Ogum Appointed Head Coach of Black Starlets and GFA Head of Coach Education
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the appointment of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum as the new head coach of the U17 national team, the Black Starlets. This decision comes as the team prepares for the upcoming WAFU Zone B U17 Boys Championship in Nigeria, which is set to take place in September 2025.
In addition to his role with the Black Starlets, Dr. Ogum has been named the GFA’s Head of Coach Education, succeeding Desmond Ofei. Ofei will now focus fully on his responsibilities as the assistant coach for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
Dr. Ogum takes over from Coach Frimpong Manso, who has stepped aside to concentrate on his club commitments with Bibiani GoldStars, as they gear up for their first campaign in the CAF Champions League.
The WAFU Zone B U17 Championship serves as a crucial qualifier for the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, and the GFA is confident that Dr. Ogum’s extensive coaching experience will help guide the Black Starlets back to continental success. He has previously led Asante Kotoko to a Ghana Premier League title and achieved a second-place finish with WAFA. His background also includes roles with Ebusua Dwarfs and the Black Galaxies, where he served as an assistant coach.
With the championship approaching, Dr. Ogum is expected to focus on assembling a competitive squad, enhancing their preparation, and ensuring that the team is well-equipped for the challenges ahead. The GFA has pledged to provide the necessary technical and logistical support to facilitate the team’s success en route to the U17 AFCON.
