FirstBank Senior Management Donates to Children’s Block of 37 Military Hospital

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CS&R) initiatives, FirstBank Ghana has supported the Children’s Block of the 37 Military Hospital with a generous donation.

On Wednesday, 02 October 2024, a team from the Bank’s management committee, led by Allen Quaye, Head of Retail Banking, and Naa Adokailey Amofa, Head of Human Capital Management and Development, presented essential items to the hospital’s paediatric unit. The items which included deep freezers, hospital beds, detergents and soft drinks, are aimed at enhancing the well-being of the children receiving care at the facility.

The donation is part of FirstBank’s broader commitment to health care through its “Start Performing Acts of Random Kindness” (SPARK) initiative. SPARK is focused on making meaningful contributions to communities across Ghana, and healthcare is one of the core areas of focus for the Bank’s CS&R agenda.

At the brief ceremony, Allen Quaye highlighted FirstBank’s belief in supporting institutions that play critical roles in community welfare, particularly in the area of child healthcare. He noted that the donation was a demonstration of the Bank’s dedication to improving healthcare outcomes for vulnerable groups, such as children.

“FirstBank is deeply committed to making a positive impact in the communities we serve, and this donation to the Children’s Block of the 37 Military Hospital reflects our values. Through SPARK, we aim to inspire kindness and lend a helping hand to institutions like this hospital, which is dedicated to saving the lives of children. We hope these items will help ease some of the challenges faced in providing care to the children here, and we are honoured to be a part of this important work,” said Allen Quaye.

Dr. Parbie Abbeyquaye, Head of Paediatrics at the 37 Military Hospital, expressed appreciation for the Bank’s continued support of the hospital’s healthcare mission. He emphasised the importance of such partnerships in addressing critical needs within the healthcare system.

Also present at the event were Colonel Owusu Addo, Chief Nursing Officer, and Ms. Gyepi Garbrah, the Nursing Officer in Charge of the Children’s Block, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the hospital and the nursing team.

“We are immensely grateful to FirstBank for this generous donation. These items will go a long way in improving the quality of care we can provide for the children here. The deep freezers will help us store essential medications and vaccines, while the hospital beds and detergents will contribute to better patient comfort and hygiene. We assure you that these items will be put to good use, and they will greatly benefit the children who come through our doors,” said Ms. Gyepi Garbrah.

FirstBank Ghana remains dedicated to championing initiatives that improve lives and create positive change in society. Through its SPARK initiative and other CS&R efforts, the Bank continues to lead the way in corporate philanthropy, ensuring that acts of kindness are performed where they are needed most.

FirstBank Ghana is part of the First Bank Group of Nigeria Limited, which is celebrating its 130th anniversary this year. The group operates across several countries, including the UK, DRC, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Gambia, and Senegal.
