GFA refers Nsoatreman FC to Prosecutor after failed talks to rescind withdrawal; opponents to receive automatic three points

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has referred Premier League side Nsoatreman FC to its Prosecutor following the club’s decision to withdraw from the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

In a letter signed by the club president and received by the GFA on March 14, 2025, Nsoatreman cited “safety concerns over the security and safety of our players” as the basis for the withdrawal per a statement from the Ghana FA.

The FA said the club linked its decision to “recent events involving [its] matches with Asante Kotoko SC and FC Samartex 1996,” adding that it “can no longer guarantee the safety of [its] players.”

In the said matches, especially the one involving Asante Kotoko, a devout football fan of the Porcupine Warriors Francis Frimpong was stabbed to death, while in their game against Samartex FC it’s believed the team bus trailed by unknown assailants and one was eventually arrested by the Police.

Per Police report, the said assailant admitted following the bus and the intent was to forced the club for the murder Francis Frimpong.

This incident raised safety concerns forcing them to withdraw from the league, but the GFA said it had engaged the club on multiple occasions in an effort to have the decision rescinded but added that those discussions had failed.

“The Football Association has had a number of engagements with the club on the subject matter without success,” the statement read.

With no resolution reached, the GFA has “activated the appropriate provisions in the competition Regulations relating to the matter,” and referred the issue to its Prosecutor for disciplinary action.

The Association cited Article 13(5) of the Premier League Regulations, which states: “Where a club withdraws from the league after it has started, any match which that club is scheduled to play shall be considered forfeited and accordingly, three (3) points and three (3) goals shall be awarded in favour of the opposing club.”

As such, “on each scheduled matchday of Nsoatreman FC, three (3) points and three (3) goals shall be awarded in favour of the opposing club,” the GFA confirmed.

The disciplinary process is expected to proceed in line with the provisions of the GFA Regulations.
