- GLICO General Commits GH¢15m Insurance Cover to Black Stars Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup
GLICO General Insurance LTD. has strengthened its support for Ghana football after presenting a GH¢15 million Personal Accident Insurance Cover and additional cash support to the Black Stars and officials of the Ghana Football Association ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The presentation comes as Ghana intensifies preparations for the global tournament, with the Black Stars aiming to make a strong impression on football’s biggest stage. The insurance package is expected to provide financial protection and security for players, technical staff, officials and other support personnel travelling with the national team.
The package was presented by the Managing Director of GLICO General, A. Achampong-Kyei Esq., alongside the company’s Chief Business Development Officer, Angela Asante. The delegation officially handed over the support package to Ghana Football Association General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo Esq., who received it on behalf of the association.
Speaking during the presentation, Achampong-Kyei stressed the importance of protecting athletes and officials as they prepare for international competition.
He explained that insurance goes beyond responding to emergencies and provides confidence and peace of mind for athletes to perform at their highest level.
“As our national team prepares to compete on the world stage, it is important that they do so with the confidence that they are protected. Insurance is not only about responding to unforeseen events; it is about providing peace of mind and enabling individuals to perform at their very best,” he said.
He added that the initiative forms part of GLICO General’s wider commitment to increasing insurance awareness in Ghana while encouraging individuals and organisations to embrace financial protection measures.
GLICO General is part of the wider GLICO Group, which includes GLICO Life, GLICO Health, GLICO Pensions, GLICO Capital and GLICO Properties.
The company also encouraged Ghanaians planning to travel abroad to support the Black Stars during the World Cup to secure comprehensive travel insurance before embarking on their journeys. According to the company, travel insurance offers protection against medical emergencies, baggage loss, travel disruptions and other unforeseen situations.
The Black Stars are expected to continue preparations in the coming weeks as Ghana looks to rally national support ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
GLICO General joined supporters across the country in wishing the Black Stars success at the tournament, praising the efforts of the players, coaches, management and support staff as they prepare to represent Ghana on the world stage.
