Real Madrid complain to UEFA following repeated draw

Real Madrid complain to UEFA following repeated draw

Real Madrid were not happy following UEFA’s decision to repeat Monday afternoon’s Champions League draw from scratch and so have complained to the European football governing body.

After UEFA announced that the draw would be redone, Real Madrid stressed that the mistakes in the draw process took place after Los Blancos were drawn against Benfica.

Real Madrid believe that UEFA’s serious mistake was not a result of a software error, as the football organisation claimed in their statement.

In the second draw, one which took place three hours after the first, Real Madrid were paired with Paris Saint-Germain, with the Spanish club speaking of an “inadmissible [decision] and another adulteration” by UEFA.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueno, hit out at UEFA after the second draw was over in Nyon.

“It was unfortunate, surprising, regrettable and very difficult to understand,” Butragueno said.

“Considering the millions of fans who were waiting for the draw, as well as the entire world of sport.

“We will face with all the enthusiasm, aware of what this competition means for the club and for our fans, we hope to be in the quarter final draw.”

Real Madrid’s relationship with UEFA is practically non-existent following the introduction of the Super League project, one which is headed by president Florentino Perez and backed by Barcelona and Juventus.

Meanwhile, Juventus posted on social media a surprised emoji, with Rodrygo Goes posting a picture of a referee making the VAR gesture after he shared a picture of the initial draw with Benfica.

The redraw now means Real Madrid will have to play Paris Saint Germain with Juventus also squaring off against Sporting Club de Portugal.
