The ranking was compiled by analyzing Home and Away Match Attendances, Social Media Engagement, Merchandise Sales, Fan-Created Content, Following of Ultra Accounts, and YouTube Views of Club Anthems. Ultra Accounts refer to social media accounts and fan groups known for their extreme loyalty and active support of their football clubs, often considered the heart of the fanbase. Each metric is adjusted to a scale from 0 to 10, and the club’s overall ranking is based on the average of these adjusted scores.
Real Madrid tops the list with the most passionate fanbase in the world with the highest average score from all the metrics combined. The club has the highest social media following on the list and substantial merchandise sales totaling 3M units. Real Madrid’s anthem stands out as one of the world’s most iconic football chants, gathering 35.4M views on YouTube. Despite the ban of club ultras from the Bernabeu Stadium, their online following remains substantial.
Manchester United secured second place with an average score behind Real Madrid. Highlighted by a significant away match attendance of 804K which is second highest on the list and a considerable amount of fan-created content, their global following is very high. The club’s anthem, “Glory Glory Man United,” has captured 17M YouTube views and a high number of merchandise sales further supports the club’s place in the ranking.
Liverpool claims the third position, supported by the highest number of away match attendance of 818K and a 101M YouTube views of their anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” which is also the highest on the list. The club’s social media engagement and substantial merchandise sales further underline the global devotion of their fanbase.
Bayern Munich lands in fourth place, backed by impressive merchandise sales of 3.25M units and a large social media following of 41.6M. The club’s anthem, “Super Bayern,” has 1.6M YouTube views.
AC Milan is ranked fifth, highlighted by strong away match attendance of 688K and a committed ultra following. Their anthem, “Che Confusione,” has gained 5M YouTube views, showcasing the cultural impact and affection from their fans, complemented by merchandise sales of 300K units.
Borussia Dortmund stands at sixth, notable for their home match attendance reaching 1.3M. The club’s engagement is further highlighted by their anthem “Heja BVB,” attracting 1.3M YouTube views.
Arsenal secures the seventh spot, with a social media following of 28.9M and fan-created content passing 2.1M on Tik Tok. Their anthem, “North London Forever,” reinforces their position with 2.2M YouTube views.
Inter Milan, achieving eighth, has match attendances with 1.3M home and 647K away, along with active social media engagement of 11.4M followers. Their anthem, “Devi Vincere,” has captured 135K YouTube views, contributing to their identity despite facing challenges in expanding merchandise reach.
West Ham United, in the ninth position, demonstrates solid local support with a notable home match attendance of 1.2M. Though the club is towards the end of the ranking they are the sixth by away-match attendance. It highlights the team’s deep-rooted values and strong fan loyalty, backed up by solid merchandise sales and a growing presence online.
Atlético Madrid rounds out the top ten with significant home match attendance of 1.1M and active social media interactions totaling 16.8M. Their anthem, “Himno de Atlético de Madrid,” has 3.1M YouTube views which is significantly less than their all time rival Real Madrid in the first place.
