Record breakers: Premier League records set in the 2022/23 season

With another captivating Premier League season over, we look at the records set across the competition in 2022/23.

– Manchester City equalled the record for the most consecutive Premier League titles, lifting the Trophy in three successive campaigns.

– Arsenal spent 248 days at the top of the table, the most for a team not to win the title.

– Man City’s 4-1 win over Liverpool in April was City’s 100th Premier League home win under Pep Guardiola, in their 128th match at the Etihad Stadium. It was the fastest a manager had reached a century of home wins in the competition, beating Arsene Wenger’s record of 139 matches.

– Ederson registered his 150th Premier League win in Man City’s 3-1 victory over Leeds United in December, reaching that mark in 197 matches, the fewest appearances of any player.

– In a 4-1 win at Southampton, Kevin De Bruyne became the quickest player to reach 100 Premier League assists, doing so in his 237th appearance.

– Aged 15 years and 181 days, Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest-ever Premier League player when he came on as a substitute in September’s 3-0 win at Brentford. He was the first player to appear in the competition before turning 16.

– Liverpool beat AFC Bournemouth 9-0 in August, equalling the joint-biggest win, after Manchester United’s victories over Ipswich in 1994/95 and Southampton in 2020/21, and Leicester City’s win against Saints in 2019/20.

– There were a record 1,084 goals across the 2022/23 season, beating the previous record of 1,072 set in 2018/19.

– There were a record 14 managerial changes this season. Including caretakers and interim bosses, 39 people took charge of a Premier League match for a club.

– Andrew Robertson produced his 54th Premier League assist as Liverpool beat Aston Villa 3-1 on Boxing Day, overtaking Leighton Baines’ record of 53 for a defender. Robertson has since increased his tally to 57.

– Villa scored in each of their first 20 matches under Unai Emery, the longest consecutive scoring streak from the start of a manager’s tenure.

– Leeds United conceded 23 goals in April, the most ever in a single month, breaking their own record of 20 in February 2022.

– Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha became the seventh player to get 14 yellow cards in a season.

– With a 36-goal haul in a scintillating debut campaign, Man City’s Haaland set a record for the most goals scored in a single Premier League season, even beating totals that were achieved in a 42-match campaign.

– Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions, a record for a Premier League player in a single campaign. City still have the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals to play.

– He was the joint-fastest player to reach 10 PL goals (six matches), and then the fastest to reach 15 goals (nine matches), 20 goals (14 matches), 25 goals (19 matches) and 30 goals (27 matches).

– The Norwegian scored four hat-tricks at the Etihad Stadium, the joint-most at home by a player in a single season along with Alan Shearer (1995/96).

– Haaland hit six hat-tricks in all competitions, the most by a Premier League player in a single campaign.

– He was the first player to score a hat-trick in three consecutive Premier League home appearances, achieving this against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Man Utd.

– The City striker’s goal at Wolves in September made him the first player to score in each of his first four away Premier League appearances.

– He recorded his 44th Premier League goal involvement in May’s 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion, setting up Phil Foden to finish the season with 36 goals and eight assists. That was a joint-record for a 38-match season, along with Thierry Henry, who produced 24 goals and 20 assists in 2002/03.

– Harry Kane scored in 26 different Premier League matches over the season, a joint-record, level with Andrew Cole’s feat in 1993/94.

– Kane struck his 185th goal in August’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, overtaking Sergio Aguero’s record for goals for a single club in the competition.

– He became the first player to net 100 Premier League away goals with his penalty in October’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, and went on to add another 12 goals on the road.

– Kane’s 10th goal on Boxing Day in Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Brentford made him the outright leading scorer for goals on 26 December.

– With that same goal, Kane achieved the feat of scoring against all 32 teams he has faced in the Premier League becoming the only player to face more than one opponent in the division and net against all of them.

– His winner against Palace in May was his 10th headed goal of 2022/23, the most by a player in a single campaign. It was also his 100th Premier League home goal.
