Republic Bank donates GHS 100,000 to First Lady’s Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation to build CHPS Compound

Republic Bank donates GHS 100,000 to First Lady’s Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation to build CHPS Compound

Republic Bank Ghana, a subsidiary of Republic Financial Holdings Limited has presented a donation of GHS 100,000.00 to the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation towards the construction of a CHPS Compound at Biakpa Avatime in the Volta Region.

The donation was presented to the first lady of Ghana, H.E Rebecca Akufo-Addo who is the chairperson of the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation. The amount was solicited through a ride out malaria cycling tour embarked by the Chain Gang Cycling Group and sponsored by the Bank.

Presenting the Cheque to the First Lady, the Board Chair of Republic Bank Ghana, Mr. Charles Zwennes, an avid cyclist and a member of the Chain Gang Cycling Group said his team of cyclists are happy to be supporting such a noble cause such as the construction of the CHPS Compound at Biakpa Avatime.

“To us as cyclists, our goal is not to only keep fit but also to support the community in any way we can through what we love to do. This is another feather in our cup and we are proud about it,” he said.

The Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Farid Antar also expressed his delight in what the Bank and the Cycling group have achieved so far to support the construction of the CHPS Compound at Biakpa-Avatime.

According to him, this is the second time the Bank is supporting Infanta Malaria Foundation to construct a CHPS Compound.

“In 2017, we sponsored the maiden Ride Out Malaria Cycling tour. Republic Bank raised and donated GHS 262,000.00 to Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation towards the construction of a CHPS at Nyanshegu, a suburb of Tamale,” the Managing Director added. 

The First Lady, H.E Rebecca Akufo-Addo expressed her gratitude to the Bank and the Chain Gang Cycling Group for the kind gesture. According to the First Lady, the Biakpa-Avatime Project will be the sixth clinic built by the foundation in about five years. She thanked the Bank led by the Chairman, Mr. Charles Zwennes for the continuous support to the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation.

Present at the Presentation ceremony were the General Manager for Commercial and Retail Banking of the Bank, Mr. Joseph Laryea Ashong and the Marketing and Communications Manager, Mrs. Genevieve Aboney. Representing Infanta Malaria was Mrs. Lois Okudzeto, a Director of the foundation, some cyclists and donors. 

The donation is line with the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy. Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC, in 2020 aligned its Corporate Social Responsibility with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) as part of the Banks’s strategic focus for the next three years. The Bank has aligned with Four SDGs areas namely: 

Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), 

Quality Education (SDG 4), 

Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6) and,

Climate Action (SDG 13).
