U-20 World Cup: USA, France, Norway, and Colombia Secure Wins

An electrifying day at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile showcased the rising talents of young footballers, with the USA leading the charge with a staggering 9-1 victory over New Caledonia. Meanwhile, France, Norway, and Colombia also celebrated wins, setting the stage for an intense tournament ahead.

USA’s Stunning Performance

In a match that will be remembered for its sheer dominance, the USA outclassed debutants New Caledonia at the Estadio El Teniente. Benjamin Cremaschi was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick, including a spectacular volley just minutes into the game. The USA quickly established control, with Niko Tsakiris, Francis Westfield, and Nolan Norris contributing to a staggering first-half score of 7-0.

Though New Caledonia managed to score their first-ever finals goal through Wapae Simane, the USA quickly restored order, with Cole Campbell completing the rout.

France Edges Past South Africa

In a closely contested match, France secured a 2-1 victory over South Africa. The French team started strong, with Anthony Bermont opening the scoring in the 25th minute. However, South Africa equalized shortly after through Jody Ahshene’s penalty. The turning point came in the 80th minute when Lucas Michal’s powerful effort clinched the win for France.

Norway’s Narrow Win Over Nigeria

Norway kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Nigeria. Rasmus Holten scored the only goal from the penalty spot early in the match after a handball was called following a video review. Despite Nigeria’s efforts, including a shot that hit the post, Norway held firm to secure the three points.

Colombia Secures Victory Against Saudi Arabia

Colombia also made a strong start, narrowly defeating Saudi Arabia 1-0. Oscar Perea scored the decisive goal in the 64th minute, turning in a cross after a defensive mishap. Despite Saudi Arabia’s attempts to respond, Colombia’s defense stood strong, ensuring their unbeaten record against AFC nations in group-stage encounters remains intact.
