Serie A: Jonathan David Shines on Serie A Debut as Juventus Overcomes Parma
Jonathan David made an immediate impact in his Serie A debut, scoring the opening goal in Juventus’ convincing 2-0 victory over Parma on Sunday at the Allianz Stadium.
The Canadian striker netted his first goal in Italian football in the 59th minute, guiding the ball home from a low cross by Kenan Yildiz, setting Juventus on course for three valuable points.
“It was everything I hoped for… I’m happy to score in my first game. But the most important thing is the three points,” David told DAZN after the match. “The target is to help the team as much as I can. If it’s by scoring goals or getting assists or running back and defending, I will do everything.”
David, who joined Juventus as a free agent, was brought in to invigorate an attack that had struggled due to the inconsistency of Dusan Vlahovic. The 25-year-old showcased the same scoring instincts that made him a standout at Lille, providing a much-needed boost to the squad.
Vlahovic, who is reportedly on the transfer list, played a crucial role in securing the win by tapping in another pass from Yildiz with just six minutes remaining. This goal came shortly after Andrea Cambiaso received a straight red card for a foul on Mathias Lovik, leaving Parma down to ten men.
Juventus also celebrated the solid return of key defender Gleison Bremer, who missed most of the previous season due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Scamacca Returns for Atalanta
In another match, Gianluca Scamacca marked his return from injury by scoring his first goal in over a year as Atalanta drew 1-1 with promoted Pisa. Scamacca’s goal came in the 50th minute, leveling the score after an own goal by Isak Hien had given Pisa an early lead.
“A lot of time has passed, but I worked hard for moments like this… It’s a shame that we only managed to draw, but it was a good performance,” Scamacca remarked. “I always try to give my best to help my teammates.”
Scamacca, who previously played a key role in Atalanta’s historic Europa League triumph, was met with cheers from the fans when he was substituted in the 72nd minute, a promising sign for the club after the departure of Mateo Retegui.
Como’s Impressive Start
Earlier in the day, Como signaled their intent for the season by defeating Lazio 2-0, thanks to goals from Tasos Douvikas and a stunning free-kick from Nico Paz. Como, who finished 10th last season after their promotion, has invested heavily in the summer and is poised to be a formidable force in Serie A.
