Serie A: Title Race Intensifies as Genoa Hold Napoli to a 2-2 Draw

Napoli’s Serie A title aspirations suffered a late blow on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home against Genoa. This result sets the stage for a captivating season finale, with Inter Milan now just one point behind the league leaders.

Napoli currently sit atop the Serie A table with 78 points, maintaining a narrow advantage over Inter, who secured a 2-0 victory against Torino earlier in the day. With only two rounds of matches remaining, the title race is poised for a dramatic conclusion.

Napoli took the lead in the 15th minute when Scott McTominay delivered a precise pass into the box, finding Romelu Lukaku. Lukaku skillfully shook off his marker and guided his shot into the bottom corner of the net.

However, Genoa leveled the score in the 32nd minute in a rather unfortunate manner for the home side. Honest Ahanor’s header struck the bar, and Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret initially parried the rebound onto the post. The ball then bounced off Meret’s body and into the net, resulting in an own goal.

The atmosphere at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium was electric in the 64th minute when Giacomo Raspadori unleashed a powerful shot from close range, restoring Napoli’s lead and sending the passionate home supporters into a frenzy.

But the euphoria was short-lived. Just six minutes from time, Johan Vasquez’s header silenced the crowd as the realization dawned that the title race had been blown wide open once again.
