Government Renames Kotoka International Airport as Accra International Airport
The Government of Ghana has formally restored the name of Kotoka International Airport to its original title, Accra International Airport.
In a statement released on Monday, February 23, the Ministry of Transport indicated that the facility bore the name Accra International Airport prior to its renaming, and authorities have now resolved to revert to that designation.
The Ministry explained that the decision reflects the airport’s historically established and internationally acknowledged name, making the reversion appropriate at this time.
It assured the public that the change in name will have no impact on airport operations, safety protocols, or international flight arrangements.
The Ministry further noted that the airport’s code under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has at all times remained “ACC”, underscoring continuity in global aviation records.
According to the statement, the transition will be implemented through a structured process involving updates to official records, relevant statutory instruments where applicable, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation manuals, and other related communication materials.
The government has appealed to the general public, industry stakeholders, and international partners to collaborate with the appropriate institutions to facilitate a smooth and orderly transition.
The Ministry also expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their ongoing cooperation and support.
