Special Prosecutor Declares Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a Fugitive
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, alleging his involvement in causing financial loss to the state through various dealings, including the National Cathedral project and transactions with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced this development during a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
The OSP has been investigating multiple high-profile corruption cases, with a focus on procurement processes, payments made, and the roles of key individuals in these projects.
In its December 2024 half-yearly report, the OSP highlighted ongoing probes into the National Cathedral project, scrutinizing the procurement of contractors and materials, as well as payments authorized by Mr. Ofori-Atta during his tenure as Finance Minister.
This declaration marks a significant escalation in the OSP’s efforts to address alleged corruption and financial mismanagement within government projects. The office has urged Mr. Ofori-Atta to return to Ghana to assist in the investigations.
