Sports Minister Kofi Adams Urges Black Stars to Secure Victory Against Mali
The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, met with the Black Stars on Saturday to rally the team ahead of their crucial match against Mali on September 8. His visit comes on the heels of the team’s disappointing draw against Chad, and he emphasized the importance of bouncing back with a win.
Accompanied by Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, CAF 2nd Vice President and President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), as well as key members of the Black Stars Management Committee, including Chairman Dr. Randy Abbey and Vice Chairman Stephen Appiah, Minister Adams conveyed a strong message of support.
“We don’t have any player better than you,” he stated, acknowledging the team’s potential and urging them to focus on the upcoming challenge. “We are all disappointed by the outcome of the match against Chad, but we can always bounce back with a positive response against Mali.”
Minister Adams also delivered best wishes from His Excellency John Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana. “He would have wished to be here to speak to you, but other engagements have taken him elsewhere. He sent me to urge you to go for the win on Monday,” he added.
Currently, the Black Stars sit atop Group I in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, boasting 16 points from 5 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss across 7 matches. The team is keen to maintain their lead and solidify their position as they aim for a spot in the prestigious tournament set to take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
