Secondary Bond Market Turnover Rises 14.7% to GHS 5.29bn
Secondary market activity in government bonds recorded a modest improvement over the week, with total turnover rising 14.7 percent week-on-week to GH¢5.29 billion, reflecting a slight pickup in investor participation.
Trading liquidity remained heavily skewed toward the February 2031 benchmark, which alone accounted for GH¢2.29 billion, representing the largest share of total market volumes.
Investor positioning continued to favour the belly of the yield curve, with 2031–2034 maturities capturing 51.6 percent of traded volumes at a weighted average yield of 15.63 percent, underscoring sustained demand for medium-term instruments.
The 2027–2030 segment also saw strong interest, absorbing 41.2 percent of market flows at a comparatively lower weighted average yield of 14.70 percent, suggesting selective yield compression in the near-to-mid tenors.
By contrast, activity at the long end of the curve remained subdued, with 2035–2038 maturities accounting for just 7.1 percent of total turnover, trading at a weighted average yield of 15.92 percent, as investors largely stayed cautious on longer-dated exposure.
