Stanbic Bank supports UGBS Endowment Fund with GHS 75,000 donation

Stanbic Bank Ghana has once again showcased its unflinching support to the education sector with a donation of GHS 75,000 to the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) Endowment Fund.

This was alongside some 20 new computers donated to the University’s School of Communication to furnish its new computer laboratory for PhD students.

The GHS 75,000 donation, Manager of Communications at Stanbic Bank, Kojo Larbi averred, was not difficult for the Bank to part away with given its believe in education and numerous support to institutions in the sector.

“It is an honour to be able to support the Fund with this amount because we find supporting the Fund very important.

“Your request for support wasn’t difficult to consider because we believe in education and also do a lot in that area, and this money just goes to affirm our support for the sector.

“This donation is also to start the process for other corporate organisations to come on board,” remarked Mr Larbi during the presentation of the Bank’s donation to the Dean of the UGBS, Professor Justice Bawole.

Adding to Mr Larbi’s remarks, Branch Manager of Stanbic Bank at the University of Ghana, Cassandra Dapaah, noted the Bank is not only interested in running a viable business, but is also interested in giving back to the society.

“Stanbic Bank is interested in impacting the University and the students especially, those who are needy,” she stated.

Gladly accepting the donation on behalf of management of the UGBS, Dean of the UGBS, Prof Bawole posited that Stanbic Bank’s donation will help the School support and provide the needs of its young and brilliant but needy students.

“Since we put up our Endowment Fund, we have struggled a bit to raise funds and that’s why when you get a brand like Stanbic Bank come through, you are happy and we consider it a really good partnership.

“Their donation will help us to move towards our target of GHS 100 million, but most importantly allow us support our young, needy but brilliant students and faculty development,” he noted.

Speaking further, he called on the various corporate organisations in the country to emulate the kind gesture of Stanbic Bank and also come to support the Endowment Fund.

“I want to appeal to corporate Ghana that, just as Stanbic Bank has done, we are looking up to see other brands, multinationals and local companies come to support the Fund to enable us invest in our students,” he stated.

Endowment Funds

University Endowment Funds are important to Universities across the globe as they serve as sources of guaranteed funds for Universities to undertake research and other activities with long-term benefits.

University Endowments are comprised of money or other financial assets that are donated to academic institutions. Charitable donations are the primary source of funds for Endowments.

Endowment Funds support the teaching, research, and public service missions of colleges and universities.

In addition to a general University Endowment Fund, institutions may also maintain a number of restricted endowments that are intended to fund specific areas within the institution, including professorships, scholarships, and fellowships.
