Starlink officially goes live in Sierra Leone
Details
Sierra Leone’s journey towards enhanced connectivity began with the National Communications Authority’s (NATCA) approval of Starlink’s license, following extensive technical evaluations in 2023. The Chief Minister, David Monina Sengeh, highlighted this as a pivotal step towards the government’s goal of universal connectivity and educational transformation.
Why This Matters
With two-thirds of the population lacking internet access, the introduction of Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet service promises to bridge the digital divide, particularly in rural and suburban regions that have been historically underserved by traditional internet providers.
The Big Picture
With Sierra Leone going live with the Starlink service, the country is now the 10th African country to have official Starlink connectivity.
