Stock market posts -16.11% YTD returns for traders

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) at the close of trading on Tuesday, August 2, posted a year-to-date (YTD) loss of 16.11% on returns on prices of shares listed on the Exchange. 

The increase in the YTD loss of the stock market was on the back of some 84.67 points decline in the benchmark index of the market closing trading at 2,340.07 points on Tuesday. 

The GSE Financial Stock Index  (GSE-FSI) however added 0.91 points to close trading at 2,086.26 points  translating into a YTD return of -3.05%. 

Market sentiment remains weak with thirteen(13) equities traded, ending with one (1) gainer and two (2) decliners.

ACCESS was the sole gainer as it gained GH¢0.03 to close trading at GH¢2.78. The decliners were MTNGH and TOTAL as they lost GH¢0.08 and GH¢0.01to close trading at GH¢0.75 and GH¢4.09 respectively.

Market capitalization for the day settled at GH¢62.15 billion.

A total of 61,046,431 shares valued at GH¢46,193,385.48 was traded on the day. Compared with the previous GSE trading day (August 1), today’s data shows a 5438.37% improvement in volume traded and 4843.77% improvement in trade turnover.

Scancom PLC. (MTNGH) accounted for  98.77% of the total value traded and recorded the largest volumes traded.
