The Ghana Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public alert to the general public, particularly bank customers, to be vigilant about bank fraudsters and how they operate.
According to a public alert issued on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 by the CSA, it said, “The CSA has received several reports and further observed reports on various social media platforms regarding online fraudulent schemes targeting customers of various banks.
According to the CSA, customers of the various banks first receive an SMS supposedly from their bank informing them that they will be receiving a call from an agent who will be assisting them to link their Ghana Cards with their bank accounts and credit or debit (ATM) cards.
The supposed agent will call the customers, requesting of their personal identifiable information (PII) including Ghana Card details, Primary Account Number (PAN) of debit or credit card, card verification values (CVVS) numbers, expiry date of cards, One Time Password(OTP) and others as part of the linking process.
Once the requested information is provided, they now undertake several online transactions causing financial losses to the bearers of the accounts.
The Cyber Security Authority has therefore outlined some measures or guidelines the public should abide by to avoid this from happening to them.
