Survey: 9 out of 10 Ghanaians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction
Nine (9) out of every ten (10) Ghanaians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.
This translates into some 87 percent of the population who think so. Some 11 percent of the population however, believe or think the country is heading in the right direction.
According to the new Afrobarometer report, the number of Ghanaians that believe the country is heading in the wrong direction represents a 24 percentage points decline since its last survey in 2019.
Unfavourable assessments of both the government and the economy by the large majority of citizens is based on both their personal living conditions and the nation’s current economic challenges.
The citizens’ gloomy outlook aligns with macro-level indicators on Ghana’s struggling economy in a difficult global environment as it seeks for a bailout from the International Monetary Fund in hopes of stabilising the economy.
Majority of the Ghanaian populace offered negative assessments in the survey with 85% of Ghanaians describing the country’s economic condition as “fairly bad” or “very bad,” up from 62% recorded in 2019.


Also, 72% say their personal living conditions are “fairly bad” or “very bad,” compared to 58% three years ago.
By large majorities, citizens say the government is performing “fairly badly” or “very badly” on keeping prices stable (94%), narrowing income gaps (92%), improving the living standards of the poor (85%), creating jobs (83%), and managing the economy (82%).
