Survey: Ghanaians blame Gov’t for economic challenges, hardships and not Covid or Russia-Ukraine war
A new survey conducted by Ghanaian research firm, Global InfoAnalytics, has revealed that a larger section of the Ghanaian populace blame the Akufo-Addo-led government for the current economic challenges and hardship in the country.
Contrary to popular assertions by officials of the government and recently the Vice President Dr Mahammudu Bawumia, that the Covid pandemic together with the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war are responsible for the country’s economic woes, the survey revealed that Ghanaians do not ascribe to such assertions as they believe the country’s present economic crisis is due to the mismanagement of the economy.
Per the survey, some 51.47% of Ghanaians believe the government is wholly to be blamed for the country’s present economic woes.
However, some 28.73% and 15.76% of the population believe the adverse impacts of the Covid pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war respectively, are to be blamed for the country’s economic crisis.
According to the same survey, 63.14% of Ghanaians are of the view that their standard of living condition for this year (2022) compared to the previous year has worsened.
Some 22.28% of the Ghanaian populace believe their standard of living condition has remained unchanged with another 10.09% of the population saying their standard of living condition has improved.
Delivering a speech at the Accra Business School on Thursday, July 14, Vice President Dr Mahammudu Bawumia attributed Ghana’s economic difficulties to the fiscal impacts of the quadruple whammy.
Among the quadruple whammy was the Covid pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war which the Vice President noted, pushed the country to seek for a bailout programme from the IMF to resolve the current economic crisis.
