MTN announces major infrastructure overhaul; commits to $1bn investment by 2025

MTN Ghana has announced an extensive network upgrade initiative aimed at enhancing customer experience and reducing carbon emissions.

The telecoms leader revealed in a statement that the overhaul will involve replacing existing mobile network infrastructure with more efficient and environmentally friendly equipment, with the project slated for completion by August 2024.

Thomas Motlepa, Chief Technical Officer of MTN Ghana, underscored the strategic importance of a state-of-the-art network in the company’s transition to a platform-based business model.

“This upgrade will result in a more reliable and robust service for our customers,” said Motlepa, “The plan includes replacing older equipment with modern, lighter, and more energy-efficient alternatives, which will contribute to a cleaner infrastructure.”

Mr Motlepa acknowledged the possibility of intermittent service disruptions during the modernization process but assured customers that the impact on network performance would be minimal.

He urged customers to be patient during this critical upgrade period, adding that any service disruptions can be reported via MTN’s helpline or social media channels.
