The Bank Square: BoG’s $250 Million Plush New Head Office Inaugurated

The new head office of the Central Bank of Ghana known as “The Bank Square” has been inaugurated.

The inauguration ceremony of “The Bank Square” which was graced with the presence of President Nana Akufo-Addo, took place on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Speaking at the inauguration of The Square Bank, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison, quipped, “This building is not just a physical structure, it is a national monument highlighting the Bank’s commitment to the transformation of the Ghanaian economy.”

Adding The Bank Square will remain a significant collective investment in the future of the country.

Also speaking at the inauguration ceremony was the Minister for Finance, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, who remarked The Bank Square is a true testament to ensuring the financial and economic stability of the country.

Delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, President Nana Akufo-Addo averred the Bank Square marks a historical milestone in the journey of the Central Bank over the last six decades of its operations.

Asserting the structure is a testament to the bank’s maturity, commitment to sound monetary policy, financial innovation and economic stability.

Further stating the building is an acknowledgement of the progress of the Ghanaian economy.

The new headquarters according to the Central Bank, is expected to bolster the country’s financial infrastructure for years to come, further asserting it is a long-term investment that will enhance operational efficiency and meet the institution’s growing demands.

Despite the controversy surrounding the construction of the bank’s new head office, the Central Bank remains firm in its belief that the headquarters is an essential step in securing the institution’s future.

The Bank Square

Situated in the heart of Accra, The Bank Square redefines commercial office space in Ghana with its focus on sustainability, efficiency and employee wellness.

Spanning 150,000 square metres, this state-of-the-art project accommodates 2,500 staff members across seven interconnected structures within a beautifully landscaped environment, complete with multi-level parking.

Key components of the building include; the Amenity Pavilion, the Urban Block, the Podium, the Tower, and the Grand Pavilion.

The Square Bank has an Energy Farm that powers the building, making it one of Ghana’s largest solar-powered office buildings.

Eco-friendly elements like solar canopies, UV-protected glass facades, natural self-cleaning stones, rainwater harvesting, and energy-efficient lighting systems are integral to its design.

Built to meet stringent local and international standards, The Bank Square integrates first-class building management and firefighting systems whilst ensuring adherence to sustainability goals.

The Bank Square building is a true testament to innovation, functionality, and eco-conscious architecture.
