Thomas Partey in Top Form for Black Stars Amid Legal Challenges – GFA
The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that midfielder Thomas Partey is “in top shape” and “in the right frame of mind” as he prepares for the Black Stars’ crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers, despite recent legal troubles.
Head coach Otto Addo included Partey in his 24-man squad for the upcoming matches against Chad and Mali, amid speculation about his potential exclusion due to a sexual assault case. Partey is scheduled to appear in court in London on September 2, just two days before Ghana’s match against Chad.
“He is in the right frame of mind,” said a spokesperson from the Ghana Football Association during an interview with Asempa FM. “He is in top shape, and as a senior player with valuable experience, we believe he will be an asset for these two matches. He is aware of the court date but can still contribute to the team.”
The Black Stars will travel to N’Djamena to face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4, before returning home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Ghana currently leads Group I after six matches and is aiming for a fifth appearance at the World Cup. Partey, who recently joined Villarreal on a two-year deal, made his second appearance for the club in their 5-0 victory over Girona.
