Ghana and the United Kingdom trade in a variety of areas, including agriculture, industry, services, and technology.

Notably, Ghana sends coffee, tea, crude oil, and vegetables to the United Kingdom while importing equipment, textiles, and meat, among others. Recent trade data show that bilateral trade volumes between the United Kingdom and Ghana are continuously increasing.

According to the UK’s Department for Business and Trade factsheets, the total value of trade in goods and services (imports plus exports) between the UK and Ghana was £2.3 billion at the end of the third quarter of 2023, up £703 million at current prices, or 44.6%, from the same period the previous year. Out of this £2.3 billion.

The report also notes that “the total UK exports to Ghana amounted to £1.0 billion in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2023 (an increase of 5.8% or £57 million in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 2022).”

Ghana ranked as the UK’s 65th largest trading partner in the four quarters preceding the end of Q3 2023, accounting for 0.1% of total UK trade.

“Of all UK exports to Ghana in the four quarters to the end of Q3 2023, £394 million (37.7%) were goods and £651 million (62.3%) were services. In the four quarters to the end of Q3 2023, UK exports of goods to Ghana decreased by 19.8% or £97 million in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 2022 while UK exports of services to Ghana increased by 31.0% or £154 million in current prices, compared to the four quarters to the end of Q3 2022,” the report adds.
