Tourism Sector Recovery Strengthens with 112,000 Arrivals in August

Ghana recorded 112,000 international passenger arrivals in August, signalling continued resilience in its travel and tourism sector despite global economic headwinds.

The figure, one of the highest this year, extends a run of monthly arrivals above 100,000, according to the latest High-Frequency Economic Indicators. Analysts said the performance reflects sustained appetite for both leisure and business travel, aided by improved flight connectivity and government-led promotional campaigns.

The rebound comes as competition intensifies from regional peers seeking to expand their share of Africa’s tourism market. Industry executives argue that Ghana’s ability to sustain momentum will depend on addressing bottlenecks in infrastructure, streamlining visa procedures and bolstering security.

The uptick in arrivals is also expected to spill over into hospitality, retail and transport, sectors seen as vital for job creation and economic diversification ahead of the final quarter’s peak travel season.
